Health & Safety

According to the British Safety Council, last year 229 people were killed at work in the UK. Looking after the health & safety of your employees is an important matter, not only to ensure their wellbeing but also to ensure you comply with your legal responsibilities.  Accidents in the workplace are increasingly the subject of criminal prosecutions and civil actions, and hjs|people can help by ensuring your processes and procedures are legally compliant helping your to create a proactive culture of health and safety at work.

hjs|people helped Silverlake Garage pass their unannounced Health & Safety Inspection with flying colours:-

"Quite unexpectedly we had a visit from the Health & Safety Executive yesterday.  You can imagine the fear that ran through us, however, due to the advice and dedication you have shown working with Jane, we passed with flying colours.

"The Inspection began by the HSE checking all our records, statements and that our paperwork was all in order.  As all of this was up to date and available we started off the inspection on a good note and it continued in that vane.  During the meeting your name passed through my head numerous times as you had provided us with the answers to some of the questions and indeed had advised us on particular issues in the yard and the way we should do things.

"May I just thank you for all this work even though I know we pay you for it, and the way you have worked together with Jane to achieve this high standard.  We are all aware of our business could have been taken away from us overnight."

19  Jan 2009 - Careless workers and their bosses could be more likely to go to prison than be mugged!

The introduction of the Health and Safety (Offences) Act 2008 means that serious breaches of health and safety rules previously punished with fines can now attract a custodial sentence of up to two years.  The wide ranging powers also mean that an employee who has contributed to a health & safety offence could face a prison sentence even if no accident or injury occurred as a result of their actions.
